 Geometry of Becoming

Presented as part of the 12th Attakkalari Indian Biennial, Geometry of Becoming marks the beginning of Attakkalari’s Silver Jubilee celebrations with a site-specific performance presented in the outdoor areas in front of the Prestige Centre for Performing Arts, Bengaluru. Featuring professional dancers, students and community participants, the work commemorates twenty five years of Attakkalari’s engagement with contemporary dance and somatic inquiry in the city.

The production draws inspiration from the sacred geometry of Rangoli, and reflects ideas of renewal and interconnectedness. Rangoli, traditional and finding its shape through improvisation, serves as a metaphor for performance as a collaborative and evolving cultural practice.

Conceived as a “memory in motion”, Geometry of Becoming creates a ceremonial space that brings together performers and audiences in shared reflection. The 25-minute choreography unfolds in five distinct sections, imagined as tributaries with unique geometric forms, movement vocabularies, and musical identities. Original choreography by Jayachandran Palazhy and sound score by M. D. Pallavi brings together diverse genres, poetic fragments evoking times of day, and musical structures rooted in Indian traditions. The performance embodies Attakkalari’s commitment to inclusion, collaboration and community engagement. It honours the organisation’s roots in Namma Bengaluru while signalling a forward-looking phase as Attakkalari enters its Silver Jubilee year and prepares for the Centre for Innovation in Performing Arts.

Sonnet Of Samsara

The second half of the Silver Jubilee celebrations of Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts features Sonnet of Samsara. This 60 minutes piece responds to the pressing challenges of environmental crises, climate emergencies, conflicts, and societal divisions. Drawing from myths, memories, lived experiences, and imagination, the work reflects on the human journey, its cycles of discovery and transformation,

Commissioned by the Serendipity Arts Festival and produced by Attakkalari in collaboration with Kinetika Design Studio, London, with support from the British Council, this powerful new production explores Samsara as an allegory for the compulsions of worldly pursuits, the karmic cycles of existence, and the themes of wandering and transmigration. The performance intertwines global themes and dynamically adapts to the unique characteristics and histories of landscapes or sites, engaging with the experiences, memories, myths, and aspirations of the communities that inhabit them
