Jeeva Pravaaha (Flow of Life)
A captivating journey through the heart of Bengaluru with "Jeeva Pravaaha (Flow of Life)", a transdisciplinary outdoor promenade performance that marked the inauguration of the Attakkalari India Biennial 2024 with a theme “CITY KINETIC” focusing on environment, sustainability and wellness. This enchanting event was a collaboration between Attakkalari, the Karnataka Tourism Department, Unboxing Bangalore, Srishti Manipal Institute, and Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore. The performance unfolded along Church Street, Brigade Road, Rangoli Metro, culminating at Attakkalari's scenic lakeside land in Kempe Gowda Layout.
This grand opening was not just a celebration of art but also marked the auspicious 'Bhoomi Pooja' for Attakkalari’s Centre for Innovation in Performing Arts (CIPA) on the same picturesque land. Additionally, the launch of 'NAGARIKA,' Attakkalari’s online archival project on Indian somatic expressions, in collaboration with Goethe-Institut/Max Mueller Bhavan Bangalore, features exquisite demonstrations by practitioners and insightful explanations by masters of various physical and performance disciplines.

This lively procession, accompanied by live music, will journey through the city and culminate in an open-air site-specific performance at Attakkalari’s land, featuring folk and contemporary music, dance, and visual projections by Japanese artist Kunihiko Matsuo.
Led by renowned dancers from Attakkalari Dance Company, award-winning singers/composers M.D. Pallavi & Bindhumalini, and students from Attakkalari and Srishti Manipal Institute of Art, Design and Technology, the performance features collaborations with international artists like Ali Pretty (Kinetika, London), who has designed for the FIFA World Cup (2009), the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Pageant (2022), as well as Kunihiko Matsuo, an acclaimed digital artist and the founder member of NEST (Tokyo), Margie Medlin (media artist from Australia), German digital artist Chris Ziegler, light designer Shymon Chelad, and folk artists Kannan Kumaran, Nellai Manikandan, and many more. Together, they weave a rich tapestry of vivid images, expressions, and associations, offering a unique sensorial narrative for the audience.

"Jeeva Pravaaha," masterfully directed by Attakkalari's Artistic Director Jayachandran Palazhy, is a mesmerizing exploration of contemporary life in Bengaluru. Interweaving urban experiences with tradition and heritage, the performance transcends physical architecture to express the city's diverse people and communities through visual, somatic, and sonic expressions. Referencing the Vijayanagara empire's architectural marvels, it intricately maps the socio-economic tributaries of Bengaluru, delving into human connections that blend heritage, memories, and contemporary experiences and cityscapes.
Join us on this extraordinary journey on Feb 10 at 2 pm at 1 Shobha, at the corner of Church Street & St. Mark’s Road, and walk with the procession accompanied by musicians through Brigade Road to M.G Road Metro station to take a metro to Kengeri station, located on the purple line. There will be feeder bus service from Kengeri metro station to the site. Additionally, you can also join the procession at 4.30 pm at Sulikere Lake for a 1.4 KM walk to Attakkalari’s land. Alternatively, you can directly join for the performance starting at 5.30 pm at site of performance in KempeGowda Layout adjacent to KNS OJAS, immersing yourself in the magic of Jeeva Pravaaha — an unforgettable experience that blends tradition, innovation, and the vibrant spirit of Bengaluru.
