Jayachandran Palazhy - FACETS Director

Bangalore, India

Jayachandran Palazhy, a performer and choreographer is also the founder and artistic director of the Attakkalari Centre for Movement Arts. Through Attakkalari, he has initiated various interlinked programmes including performance, education, research, documentation, a festival, and stage technologies which have made waves throughout the country and abroad.

Gideon Obarzanek

Melbourne, Australia

Gideon Obarzanek first became interested in dance towards the end of high school and after graduating deferred science at university to study at the Australian Ballet School. He later danced with the Queensland Ballet and the Sydney Dance Company before working as an independent performer and choreographer with various dance companies including the Netherlands Dance Theatre and independent projects within Australia and abroad. Obarzanek founded Chunky Move in 1995 and led the company as Artistic Director until June 2012. More recently, he created a new work, There's Definitely a Prince involved, for the Australian Ballet's fiftieth anniversary season and is currently Resident Artist at the Sydney Theatre Company. Obarzanek's works are diverse in form and content and include stage productions, installations, site-specific works and film. His works have been performed in many festivals and theatres around the world in the United Kingdom, Europe, Asia and the Americas.

Janet Lilly

North Carolina, United States of America

Janet Lilly is former principal dancer and master teacher with the Bill T Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company and the new Head of the Department of Dance at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Music, Theatre and Dance. Lilly joined UNCG after more than 15 years at the Peck School of Arts Department of Dance at the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin, where she was instrumental in creating a low-residence MFA program for returning dance professionals. The recipient of a 2008-09 Fulbright Lecturer Award, Lilly has choreographed and taught as a guest artist and master teacher on college campuses in the United States and abroad. She has been awarded numerous grants and awards including a 2001 National Endowment of the Arts Creation and Planning Grant.

Jatin Vidyarthi

Bangalore, India

Jatin Vidyarthi is an electronic music composer/producer and DJ. He composes ambient and organic music works which are warm and emotional. He is interested in found sound, sampling techniques, analog synthesiser and music software to create beautiful and dense soundscapes.

Joseph Hyde

London, United Kingdom

Joseph Hyde is a musician who has diversified into electronic music and creation of sound. His focus now lies in collaboration as a composer working with interactive systems and tele-presence particularly in the field of dance. He also maintains an active research practice as a composer and digital artist, making music, multimedia performance works and installations.

Lars Erik H Bratlie

Oslo, Norway

Lars Erik H Bratlie is a light and production designer, who has been working with dance and theatre productions for over a decade.

Margie Medlin

New South Wales, Australia

Margie Medlin, an English-born, Australian-based media artist began her initial tertiary training at the City Art Institute in Sydney majoring in new media and filmmaking. Medlin worked with a number of dance artists, before undertaking further training in lighting design, scenography and advanced computer applications for theatre design in the United Kingdom. Medlin won a Bessie Award in New York in 1997 for her lighting of Lucy Guerin's Two Lies among several other awards.

Meryl Tankard

New South Wales, Australia

Meryl Tankard is one of Australia's iconic choreographers. Beginning her career as a dancer with the Australian Ballet, Tankard went on to become one of Pina Bausch's leading artists in Wuppertal, Germany (1978-88). She directed her own companies in Canberra (1989-92) and Australian Dance Theatre (1993-99) producing a rich repertoire of full-length works, which toured extensively worldwide. Since 2000, she has been a freelance artist and has created for major European companies, including the Lyon Ballet, Netherlands Dance Theatre and Leipzig Ballet as well as choreographing musicals for Disney on Broadway and London's West End. Her work opened the Sydney 2000 Olympic Opening Ceremony. In 2010, Meryl graduated in Film Directing (AFTRS) and is currently developing a music theatre work, Mad, and writing a script for a feature film. The Oracle, one of her recent works, (co-produced by Sydney Opera House) will tour United States of America and London South Bank, later this year.

Nicole Seiler

Lausanne, Switzerland

Choreographer Nicole Seiler has collaborated as a performer with dance companies such as Cie Buissonniere, Teatro Malandro, Alias Compagnie, Compagnie Philippe Saire and Massimo Furlan. In 2002, Seiler founded her own company whose research combines dance and multimedia. Her research has given form to multimedia stage productions, performances, videos and choreographic installations and in recent years has continued her explorations around the relation between image and sound. In 2009, Seiler received the cultural prize for dance from the Vaudoise Foundation for Culture.

Sankar Venkateswaran

Thrissur, India

Sankar Venkateswaran is a theatre director, maker, producer, dramaturge, actor and composer who graduated from Calicut University School of Drama & Fine Arts, Thrissur in 2002 and Intercultural Theatre Institute (formerly Theatre Training and Research Programme), Singapore in 2006. In 2007, he founded the theatre company, Theatre Roots & Wings, whose works include Sahyande Makan - The Elephant Project and Shogo Ohta's The Water Station. In 2009, he was invited to direct Bhasa's Urubhangam, which was premiered in Matsumoto, Japan. In 2010, he was appointed as the festival director for the National Theatre Festival organised by Government of Kerala and was the technical director for International Theatre Festival of Kerala, organised by Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi.

Horst Muhlberger

Cologne, Germany

Horst Muhlberger has worked for ten years as an engineer for Electronic Design until his passion for light, illumination and dance, moved him to work for performing arts. Since 1992, he has worked as a light designer for dance works and since 1996, for architectural projects. Beside his creative work, since 1998, he has worked as a technical director at the Tanzhaus NRW and the Jahrhunderthakle Bochum, and for many dance festivals (Butho Festival Bremen, Global Dance Dussedorf, Dancefair NRW, and also Pina Bausch's two festivals in NRW. Since 2010, Muhlberger works as a lecturer for stage and light design in HFMT, Cologne.

Thomas Dotzler

Stockholm, Sweden

Thomas Dotzler is a light designer, who has been working with dance companies across the world including Attakkalari's Repertory Dance Company for over a decade.
